On Monday March 30th, 2009, hundreds of White House Project supporters came together at U.N. Headquarters in New York City for the 2009 EPIC Awards, celebrating the voice and vision of innovators whose lives have shown other women what is possible—as well as those who use media and culture to help women see on-screen what they can’t see very often in the world: women leading at every level.
As host Soledad O’Brien said at the start of the night, “In my work as an anchor and correspondent at CNN, I have witnessed the powerful impact that images—on screen and in real life—can have on the ambitions and aspirations of our young people.”
At the close of the evening, Atlanta City Council President and White House Project Board Member Lisa Borders reaffirmed the magnitude of our shared goal:
“The White House Project works to inspire, inform and equip tens of thousands of women to take the next step in their leadership—and everyone in this room must play a part in helping to achieve that goal. We know that times are tough. But we also know that tough times often offer the best opportunities to invest wisely - and investing in the future of women is among the soundest investments you can make.”
For those who were unable to join us at the 2009 EPIC Awards, you can still make a difference today by investing in the leadership of women across the nation who benefit from The White House Project’s trainings. As a supporter, you provide women with the necessary tools to be effective leaders for positive change in their communities and world.
